Darling Mills Studio

“Darling Mills Studio, my creative atelier, was founded when I lived in Sydney. It was named after Darling Mills Creek which passed below our garden.”

Rachel Moodie

I am a digital and mixed media artist. A curator, a writer, a teacher, a mother/juggler and occasionally I am a graphic and web designer.

My artworks are an amalgamation of paper ephemera, magazines, old books, old photos, modern photography and mixed media processes such as collage, gelli printing, cold wax, oils, spray paint, stitch, textiles and encaustics. I create limited edition digital collages printed on cotton rag paper and matt ceramic tiles as well as hand collaged landscapes. My current fascination is with themes of whimsy, dreams, memory, motherhood and perinatal mental health.

I grew up in Sydney and now live in the Southern Highlands of NSW with my husband, Clint and my two young children, Elva (5 years) and Rex (2 years).

Are you a creative mother?

I created my book, ‘The Artful Mum’ with the intent of helping myself and other mothers maintain a creative practise around parenting small children.

It is a series of interviews with 6 Australian artists on how they juggle both a creative practise and motherhood. It’s full of visual inspiration, tips and encouragement.

I also stock these other tools for creative mothers:
