Hello!

I’m Rachel Moodie ~ an artist, designer and multifaceted creative based in the NSW Southern Highlands.

I paint, collage, teach, write, curate and design. There are many strings to my bow and you will often find me juggling multiple balls and wearing many creative hats!

My background is in graphic and web design, arts marketing, gallery management, curation, illustration agency management and event co-ordination.

These days my artworks are predominantly mixed media and collage and I’ve exhibited locally and interstate since 2007.

In 2017 I released my book on motherhood and creativity called 'The Artful Mum' which is a series of interviews with fabulous artist mothers.

My inner critic is called Gertrude and she’s my podcasting assistant on my perfectly imperfect podcast; 'Casting the Inner Critic'.

Facilitating artistic communities and fostering creativity in those around me is something I am very passionate about. My latest creative ventures are ‘Cake & Create’ - Creativity workshops with cake from Thistle and school holiday art workshops for kids.

Art

My artworks are intuitive mixed media paintings on board or canvas. There are many, many layers in each painting and I use acrylics, inks, pastels, paint pens, spray paint, pencil and more in my works.

The analogue collages I make are amalgamations of paper ephemera, magazines, old books, old photos, modern photography and mixed media processes such as gelli printing, oil pastel, cold wax and stitch.

In 2010 I began experimenting with digital collages. They are the merging of my fine art training and graphic design skills. I use Photoshop to create limited edition digital collages.

“It is good to love many things, for therein lies the true strength, and whosoever loves much performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is well done.”
